AARI has a well-equipped culture lab where various algal cultures are developed. AARI sells algal cultures for student projects and various research activities. Recently AARI developed the much-awaited organism Chlorella vulgaris from Tamil Nadu. This alga can be purchased by students and they can use it for their research. C. vulgaris constitutes an excellent candidate for production due to its high resistance against rough conditions and invading organisms. In addition, the production of the various organic macromolecules of interest (proteins, lipids, starch) differs depending on the technique used to create biomass and can be therefore targeted. Under more hostile conditions, the biomass decreases but lipids and starch contents increase. Under favorable conditions, protein content raises along with the biomass.
